Unfortunately, Roger and I were unable to make the October PEACHES ride. We have a good excuse as we are in Orange County in southern California. On the same day as the PEACHES ride, we were thrilled to have a gathering of the Southern California Team Tandems organized in our honor! Due to the late notice, it was a small but enthusiastic turnout, one bike less than the PEACHES club ride.
We had a blast riding up the Pacific Coast Highway from Newport Beach to Long Beach and then back again. This group doesn’t organize a lunch event after the ride. Instead, they do their socializing at coffee stops at the midpoint. Our rest stop was at Polly’s Pies in Belmont Shores.
I didn’t see any pies on display, but they had lots of coffees and teas to choose from. We had a cinnamon scone (sorry no picture) which really hit the spot.

After our rest stop, we detoured to the beach to ride on the path along the ocean and to get a glimpse of the Queen Mary.

We loved seeing the green line through Belmont Shores. This line takes the “sharrow” or shared bike lanes to the next level to make things as safe as possible for cyclists who are passing through.

We’ll be here another week and we hope to see everyone at our club ride in November!
