PEACHES Very Special Correspondent Sherry Rodriguez files this report:
A definite hint of Fall was in the air for the October PEACHES ride. Six intrepid teams arrived at Dellinger Park in Cartersville for the 9:00 AM start. Who would of thought it would be 39 degrees at that time?
Ride leaders Peter & Margaret and Jim and Wendy (who was stoking in Charlotte’s absence) set up 30 and 50 mile options for the group.
We welcomed first time PEACHES riders Steve and Robin from Canton to the ride. Not only was this Steve and Robin’s first PEACHES ride, but only their third tandem ride ever. Steve & Eva, Linda & Eric, and Jose & Sherry rounded out our remaining teams.
Our group set a brisk pace on the way out – undoubtedly trying to stay warm. Bright skies and steadily warming temps actually made for a pleasant ride leaving Cartersville. We still had to zip up the wind vest on descents and unzip on the climbs.
The Dollar General in Kingston provided a rest stop for the group. This would also be the turn around point for the 30 mile option. Little traffic and two small dogs provided the only distractions on what turned out to be a perfect ride in the country.
The Mellow Mushroom in Downtown Cartersville provided a great venue for Pizza, Subs and beer – A great ending to a wonderful day’s tandem ride.
Join us for the next PEACHES ride on November 16, weather permitting.
